Shelagh Connor Shapiro's novel, A Toast to the Afterlife, will be published in March 2027 by Unsolicited Press. Her first novel, Shape of the Sky, was published by Wind Ridge Books of Vermont in September 2014. Her stories and essays have appeared in North Dakota Quarterly, The Baltimore Review, Short Story, Gulf Stream, New Ohio Review and others. Her story “somewhere never gladly” was included in Please Do Not Remove, a collection of stories and poems inspired by old Vermont library cards. The story was nominated for a Pushcart Prize. Shelagh has a bachelor's in Spanish from Middlebury College and an MFA in Writing from the Vermont College of Fine Arts. She has been a contributing editor for the Vermont literary journal Hunger Mountain. Her radio show, Write the Book, featuring interviews with authors, poets, illustrators, agents, and editors, was heard weekly in and around Burlington, Vermont, for fifteen years. Episodes are archived on Podbean. She is a past producer for the popular show Vermont Viewpoint on WDEV, hosted by Ric Cengeri. A founding board member of the Green Mountain Book Festival, Shelagh was the festival's president in 2023. She is represented by Veronica Adams with 1852 Media. Shelagh lives in South Burlington, Vermont with her husband, Jerry. Sons Bennett, Connor, and Aaron are all grown up and scattered about the country, but luckily they still come around from time to time.
